Ann Weakland - 7th Grade Teacher


Ann is from Louisville, Ohio, where she attended St. Louis Elementary and St. Thomas Aquinas High School. After graduating from high school in 2002, she attended Walsh University on a Presidential Scholarship. In college, she was very active in numerous organizations, including the Walsh University Honors Program, Habitat for Humanity, the Walsh University Choral, Phi Delta Kappa, and the Walsh University Student Government.

Mrs. Weakland worked as a tutor in the Writing Center and was president of the Walsh University Literary Society . Mrs. Weakland was also the recipient of numerous honors, such as the Brother Robert Myrrl-Houk Inspirational Scholarship, the Silver Service Award, the Perrico Award for Excellence in Writing and was recognized as a Who's Who Among Students in American Universities.

In 2006, she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a 4.0 grade point average, receiving a Bachelor's of Arts in Middle School Education. Mrs. Weakland then began to work at Our Lady of Peace School in Canton, teaching Fifth Grade Religion, Language Arts, Social Studies, Mathematics, as well as Computers to the Middle School grades . She then transferred to an Eighth Grade homeroom, instructing Seventh and Eighth grades in diverse subjects such as Math, Religion, Science, Art, Language Arts, and Computers.

In addition to her teaching responsibilities, she led students in numerous other activities, such as the International Book Sharing Project, the Stark County District Library Youth Poetry Contest, and numerous service projects and field trips. Additionally, she was responsible for organizing the Spelling Bee and Student Government, and the School Science Fair, from which she led many students to District and State Science Fairs, earning the school the District 13 School Award for Science Achievement. Besides these student activities, in 2009-2010, she also assumed responsibility for mentoring a student teacher, and was the chair of the OCSAA Committee, which is accountable for ensuring the school's academic reaccreditation.

Outside of teaching, Mrs. Weakland enjoys singing in choirs such as the Stark County Community Chorus and Chorus for a Cause. She also volunteers for the Louisville Community Bible School and Relay for Life. She has traveled in singing tours to Washington D.C. and New England, and was a speaker at the NCHC Honors Conference in St. Louis, Missouri. Last year, she traveled to Eastern Europe with her husband of three years, which allowed her to see France, Holland, the Czech Republic , Slovakia , Austria and Hungary.

In 2010, she left Our Lady of Peace to work at St. Barbara's and is eager to share her experience and knowledge with the incoming Eighth Grade class.
