Cathy Rufo - 3rd Grade Teacher Cathy teaches third grade and is also the fourth grade math teacher. She received a degree in Psychology from Kent State University and an Elementary Education degree from Walsh University. She believes that when Christ is at the heart of a school, children experience a joyful learning experience when they use the gifts that God has given them. The SMART Board and CPS Personal Response System used in Cathy's classroom have given students a chance to experience technology that rivals many universities. Every year students come in knowing more and more about different types of technology and it is almost second nature to them. Doing flashcards by sliding them across a giant screen is much more appealing to them than flipping through cardboard ones. Cathy feels that some students are more willing to try a more difficult task when they can “click” an answer anonymously instead of raising their hand and risk being wrong. Even though they can see whether or not they answered correctly, no one else will. Cathy has three children. Bobby, age 21, is majoring in accounting at the University of Akron. Matthew, age 19, is majoring in accounting at John Carroll University and Sara, age 14, is in the 8 th grade at St. Michael School and is on the basketball team and is an avid sports fan-especially Green Bay Football. She wants to play basketball for Duke and study to be a sports agent. Cathy tells her student the same thing she tells her daughter, “Dream big and work hard because anything is possible.” |
